News from Blakeney & Gardeners cottage
We had a very good hot dry summer and mild autumn last year & the winter season has been good so far with Norfolk enjoying a fairly mild winter with lots of sunshine and very little rain so far. The cottage garden has been full of colour most of the year. The hollyhocks and japanese anemones were wonderful last year. The autumn colours were also very good with masses of cyclamen flowering. We are looking forward to the spring bulbs appearing.
Our autumn and pre-christmas bookings were very busy this year and we were at full occupancy for Christmas and New Year 2016. The lure of the log burner, the AGA, the fabulous large sociable kitchen / family room has been a big hit with our guests as it makes an ideal venue for family gatherings , birthday parties & celebrations. if you would like to book for Christmas or new year 2017, make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. Enquiries have been coming in already for next year.
Bookings are filling up very fast this year, maybe due to the Brexit effect and the weak pound. We are nearly fully booked for all the school holiday weeks in July & August 2017 but we do have some availability in May and June.
If you want to make a booking for school holidays you will need to book early this year.

We now have firbreoptic broadband to the cottage which means the internet connection is much much faster than it used to be and does not dip out as much. However this is Norfolk and so if you are coming from a city you may still find it is slower than you are used to, but it is now as fast as it gets for Blakeney, and our guests and ourselves have noticed a huge improvement.
Mobile reception seems to have improved in Blakeney
We noticed earlier this year while walking our dogs out towards Cley that we had a really good mobile signal, it may have even beeen 3G !! The reception in the house has improved a little but is still mainly confined to upstairs, and we have never seen 3G appear anywhere in the cottage.
There is now a landline telephone in the snug so you can receive incoming calls from family, friends etc
The cottage now sleeps 12 comfortably thanks to the addition of a king size bed in the family room
We have this year put an enormous king size bed in to the large family room so that this room now has a king size bed and two single beds, ideal for families.
New blinds, throws and cushions
We have also put some lovely new stripey coastal style blinds in the upstairs family bedroom, and new throws and cushions on a coastal colour scheme.
All the beds now have mattress protectors
Window locks on upstairs bedrooms
We have added toddler safe window restrictors to two of the upstairs bedrooms-the family room and the twin bedroom. The windows can still be opened but the opening is restricted. This can be opened wider by an adult, but should prevent toddlers from opening them fully.
New wine fridge
We have a new wine fridge in the kitchen so your wine can be chilled to the perfect temperature.
We have also replaced the dishwasher in the kitchen with a new model, so your dishes can now be washed to perfection.
Coastal paths now all fully repaired
We are pleased to report that the much loved coastal path from Blakeney to Cley and from Blakeney to Morston has now reopened to walkers after the extensive repairs following the storm surge in December 2013. This year we have noticed lots and lots of walkers, families and their four legged friends enjoying the coastal paths. The new surface actually seems to have improved the paths and has made them more accessible to buggies and bikes as well as cleaner for walkers.
