Overstrand Beach

The lovely cliff top seaside village remains one of North Norfolk's hidden gems. Overstrand offers a trip back in time as it has remained largely unchanged for the last 100 years. If you want a completely un-commercialised English beach experience car park, beach cafe and crab shed, miles of sand and walks, then Overstrained is a good choice.

The sea defences at Overstrand are studied by GCSE geography students in Norfolk as they have just about all of them to try to reduce the coastal erosion.

Overstrained beach is dog friendly although some areas of beach have restrictions in high season.

 

Overstrand Village

Overstrand is a thriving village perched on the cliff tops between Cromer and Mundesley on the North Norfolk coast and about 2 miles from Cromer. The village is in an area that is designated 'an area of outstanding natural beauty'

With its unspoilt sandy beaches, towering cliffs, characterful sea defences & wooden groynes leading out to sea, it is a popular destination for visitors to Norfolk wanting a simple old fashioned beach experience.

There is a cliff top cark park (pay and display) & a very good cliff top cafe offering great snacks, lunches, teas, ice creams etc, a quiet unspoilt beach and you can walk to Cromer for fish and chips at low tide. You can even take your dogs with you to the cafe in good weather as they have outside seating. There is also a village shop, a couple of pubs and a post office.

Overstrand itself is a very attractive village and steeped in architectural history. Because of its unspoilt beauty it was a very popular place for wealthy Victorians to build their holiday homes & was nicknamed 'the village of millionaires' There are several building designed by the architect Sir Edward Lutyens, the most notable of which is probably Overstrand Hall. It is a lovely village to explore by foot on a sunny day and look at all the lovely houses and cottages & their pretty gardens and the of course the fabulous coastal views.

 

You can walk along the beach from Overstrand  to Cromer

There is a lovely walk to cromer along the beach. Very popular with dog walkers. Takes about 40 minutes to an hour. Access to the beach is by a very steep footpath so not suitable for elderly or infirm. Walk probably too long for youger children. Check tide times & weather before you set out. You can walk back along the cliff tops and around the edge of the golf course. Incredible views out across the sea from the cliff top walk. Make sure you wear good walking shoes or trainers for this walk.

Cromer 

Cromer is famous for the Cromer Crab and at the Cromer end of the walk you will walk past all the colourful tractors that bring the crab pots up from the crab boats. There are also some really good fish and chip shops in Cromer and lots of cafes.
